Wandering albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) nesting. The male (right) is sitting on the cliff-top nest. Wandering albatross pairs bond for life during a courtship ritual. The large drum-shaped nest of earth and plant material has a small hollow on top for the egg. Every two years a single egg & chick is incubated and raised by both parents. Wandering albatross wings can span 3 metres,allowing them to soar on the winds of the southern oceans. They feed at night as they float on the sea surface and reach down to catch their prey,mostly squid. Photographed on Bird Island,South Georgia,southern Atlantic Ocean
