Eggs of the Indian or Burmese python,Python molurus bivittatus, hatching. These juveniles will grow to an adult length of up to 10 m. Freshly laid python eggs are chalk-white or yellowish, soft, slightly shiny, and sticky. The sheen disappears after a few minutes. The eggs stick together,an adaption that reduces their total exposed surface area and helps prevent them from drying out. After a few hours the egg shell takes on a parchment texture. The female will then incubate her eggs for two months or more by wrapping her body around them and resting her head on top. These pythons are found in S.E. Asia, althought these eggs were from a captive specimen | |
