Twenty four hours,Polychrus marmoratus,so called because it is believed that you will die in 24 hours if one jumps on you. They are found in the Amazon basin and on the Caribbean islands of Trinidad (as here) and Tobago. This species avoids dense forest. The dark stripes running across its body are reminicent of the leaves of a wilted,rolled-up leaf. This iguana feeds on insects; lying in wait for them to pass or chasing them for short distances. It holds its five toes together in groups of two and three,so that they form a sort of pincers. When climbing along horizontal branches,it sometimes holds on with the hindlegs alone; the long tail provides balance | |
