Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) swimming. The green sea turtle is found in warm tropical waters. It is herbivorous, eating algae and sea grasses, although young turtles may eat small animals such as snails and jellyfish. Turtles can grow up to 1.5 metres in length and weigh up to 200 kilograms. They can migrate thousands of miles during the breeding season to return to their hatching site. Despite the females laying up to 200 eggs at a time, the green sea turtle is an endangered species due to its great number of predators. These include sharks and humans | |
