Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) feeding on sponges amongst coral rubble at the base of a reef. It is surrounded by fish, waiting to eat any small animals that its foraging disturbs. At left are two foxface rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus),with two blue-faced angelfish (Pomacanthus xanthometopon) at lower and upper right. A small wrasse is also seen at upper right. The hawksbill is a small sea turtle rarely exceeding 80 centimetres in length. It is found in tropical seas throughout the world, feeding mainly on sponges but also taking sea anemones and other invertebrates. Photographed in Malaysia | |
