Flectonotus fitzgeraldi,a pigmy marsupial frog found on the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & tobago. The frog lives in plants that trap pockets of water, such as this Heliconia (a relative of the banana),or bromeliads. This female carries her eggs in a dorsal pouch, which is marked by two dark lines down the back. It is empty in this photograph. The young are carried in this way until they are well developed tadpoles, after which they are dropped into pockets of water in leaf axils or bracts where they complete their development | |
