Phyllomedusa trinitatis, the Trinidad leaf frog,or green tree frog, peering through vegetation at the edge of a pond. This species is found on the Caribbean island of Trinidad & in South America. Nocturnal creatures, they live in trees & bushes surrounding ponds. They move slowly & deliberately & are known to swim badly. The female lays her eggs in a nest of leaves folded into tubes, positioned above a body of water. When the eggs hatch the larvae fall into the water where they develop further. Adult tree frogs feed on large insects including crickets & moths. The female is larger than the male; the former measuring 90mm & the latter 80mm | |
