Trumpetfish (Aulostomus maculatus, brown) following a Spanish hogfish (Bodianus rufus) as it hunts for food. The trumpetfish is waiting to pounce on any animal disturbed by the hogfish's investigations. It feeds on smaller fish and crustaceans, while the hogfish feeds primarily on bottom-dwelling invertebrates such as starfish and sea urchins. Both these fish inhabit the tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. Photographed off Bonaire Island in the Netherlands Antilles,in the Caribbean Sea | |
