Blackbar soldierfish (Myripristis jacobus) sheltering in a crevice. This fish is nocturnal, and spends most of the day hiding in crevices and caves on coral reefs. Its large eyes help it to navigate at night, when it emerges to feed on plankton. It can reach a length of 25 centimetres. It is found in coastal regions in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina,USA,to Brazil in the west, and around the equatorial coast of Africa in the east.
