Two-stick stingfish (Inimicus filamentosus) or Indian walkman camouflaged on the seabed. The stingfish has pectoral fin rays that can be moved independently of the rest of the fin. This gives it the appearance that it is walking on the seabed. It is a bottom-dwelling fish living close to coral reefs. It often partially buries itself in the sand, lying motionless waiting for prey. The stingfish,as the name implies, has highly toxic spines (upper centre). These are occasionally stepped on by divers, which may prove fatal if not treated. Photographed off Kapalai,Malaysia | |
