Dragon sea moth (Eurypegasus draconis) camouflaged on a sandy seabed. The sea moth, also known as a little dragonfish, uses its camouflage to hunt its prey of small fish and crustaceans, and also to hide from its own predators. It is found in tropical seas from the Indian Ocean to the central Pacific. The male differs from the female by having a blue-white pectoral fin margin (bottom center & upper right),which it flashes when it is disturbed. The sea moth is known to make short leaps out of water, using its pectoral fins as a parachute. Photographed in the Gulf of Aqaba,Red Sea | |
