Starfish growing a new body. The large arm (upper right) was severed from the body of a mature starfish. If the victim survived the injury,it will have grown a new arm. The arm, meanwhile, can grow a whole new starfish,as seen by the four developing arms at lower left. Starfish at this stage are sometimes called "comets",because of their unusual appearance.
