Mating nudibranchs (Nembrotha purpureolineolata),or sea slugs. All nudibranchs are hermaphrodites, having both sexes. They exchange sperm with their penises (white tipped with purple, seen between them). Each also has feathery gills (upper right and lower left) and paired rhinophores (brown tipped with white, upper left and lower right). The rhinophores are used to sense chemicals in the water. Nudibranchs (meaning naked gills) are sea slugs without a shell or true gills. The bright colours indicate to predators that they are poisonous | |
