Egg ribbon. View of the egg ribbon of the nudibranch known as Spanish Dancer,Hexabranchus sanguineus,on the sea floor, surrounded by corals. Nudibranchs are sea slugs which have no shell or true gills and instead breathe through body projections. They are grazing carnivores, eating invertebrates attached to the sea floor and fish eggs. The egg ribbon of the Spanish Dancer contains several thousand eggs which will hatch into free drifting larvae. The Spanish dancer is the largest species of nudibranch and can grow up to 60 cm in length. Photographed in Port Safaga,Egypt | |
