A nudibranch or naked sea slug,Antiopella sp.. The nudibranchs are an order of marine gastropod molluscs characterised by the complete absence of a shell, either external or internal. They form a highly diverse,multi-formed group, comprising 48 families and around 1000 species. They have a symmetrical slug-like body which often bears numerous respiratory projections known as cerata. These may be simple or branched and are often brightly coloured. Nudibranchs are largely carnivorous, feeding on hydroids and sponges. Most live on the sea bottom or on vegetation, although some live in open waters | |
