Sundial snail shells. These are from the marine gastropod Architectonica persepctiva, found in the Indo-Pacific region. The shells are about 2-4 centimetres across. Sea shells are calcium-rich structures formed by gastropod molluscs for their protection. The chambers at the centre of a shell are the oldest, with successively larger chambers being added as the animal grows, forming a spiral structure. Sea shells are often highly prized by collectors | |
