False-colour scanning electron micrograph of a dust mite,Dermatophagoides sp.,in a sample of household dust from a vacuum cleaner. The mite thrives in damp houses. It feeds on furniture stuffing,groceries,wallpaper paste,& other such delicacies. It is seen here surrounded by a feast consisting of skin scales,synthetic & woollen fibres,cat fur,& soil particles.
