Comma butterfly. High-speed photograph of a comma butterfly (Polygonia comma-album) in flight above flowers. This butterfly is named for the white,c-shaped marking (not seen here) found on the underside of its wings. When stationary,it folds its wings up to reveal their mottled brown undersides, camouflaging itself as a dead leaf. This mimicry is aided by the wings' irregular edges. The comma is found in southern Britain and all but the most northerly regions of Europe,as well as northern Africa | |
