Carpenter bee nest. Holes in rotting wood formed by nesting Xylocopa caffra carpenter bees. The carpenter bees (Xylocopa sp.) do not make honey. Instead, they feed their young on a mixture of dry pollen and nectar. They are called carpenter bees because they excavate their nest burrows in rotten wood.
