It's large antennae are seen at far right with mouthparts at lower right. The ant's head is covered in microscopic- sensitive hairs. Two of the ant's front legs are seen at bottom. This species is also known as a giant red-stinging ant. It is a native of North America. It gathers seeds which are laid in large stores in preparation for forthcoming dry seasons.
