Bee fly (Bombylius major) feeding on the flowers of a tufted vetch (Vicia cracca). It obtains nectar from the flowers through a long proboscis. In the process of feeding, pollen grains attach to the bee fly and it acts as a pollinator. Despite its bee-like appearance, the bee fly (family Bombyliidae) is a true fly belonging to the order Diptera. Members of the Bombyliidae family lay their eggs near nests of other insects such as solitary wasps, bees and beetles. When the larvae emerge they parasitise on the eggs, larvae and food stores of the host nest | |
