Beetle larva head, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Beetles (order Coleoptera) are insects that have biting mouthparts and two pairs of wings, with one pair modified into a protective covering structure. Most beetle larvae also have a set of biting mouthparts, such as the crossed pair seen at lower centre. The beetle larva's antennae (sensory organs) are at centre left and at centre right, attached to the head just above the biting mouthparts. The eyes (red) are just above each of the antennae. Two palps (sensory mouthparts) are seen behind the biting mouthparts. Four of its six legs are seen in the background. This larva is not grub-like,but looks like an adult | |
