Woodworm beetle. Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of an adult woodworm (or furniture) beetle,Anobium punctatum. This brown beetle grows to 4-6mm in length and has longitudinal rows of pits along it's body. Two segmented antennae are seen emerging from its head. Both adults and larvae attack wood, forming networks of burrows, but it is the larvae which cause the most damage. Eggs are laid on the surface of dead wood, including beams & rafters, timber, furniture and dead trees, and the larvae hatch out and begin to eat their way inwards. The damage can be extensive without being noticeable Magnification: x23 at 6x7cm size. Magnification: x23 at 4.5x6 inch size | |
