Aphid. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of an aphid (sub-order Homoptera). The horn-like projections (top left & right corner) are antennae and compound eyes (orange, centre left & right) are seen. The mouthparts (lower centre) are used to penetrate a plant and suck sap from the plant's veins. The first of three pairs of walking legs are seen at lower left and bottom right corner.
