Emperor shrimp (Periclimenes imperator) on the skin of a Synapta maculata sea cucumber. This shrimp often rides on the skin of an inedible animal such as a sea cucumber, where it hides from predators. The association does not harm its host,so their relationship is said to be commensal. Photographed off Papua New Guinea | |
