Coggia's Comet of 1874. Pencilled notes and drawings,by the British amateur astronomer George Henry With (1827-1904),of Coggia's Comet. This comet was discovered in 1874 by the French astronomer Jerome Eugene Coggia. The comet's modern designation is C/1874 H1. It was a sungrazing comet with a short period,and was in the skies from early June to August of that year. It had two large tails (seen here),which stretched more than 60 degrees across the sky.
