Steam-powered vehicle, historical artwork. This vehicle consisted of a water-filled vessel (circle, centre) which was heated by a furnace beneath it. This caused the production of steam, which was allowed to escape through a narrow nozzle (at right). This had the effect of propelling the vehicle forwards (to the left). It was designed by s'Gravesande in 1680,after hearing of Newton's laws of motion | |
