Processed iron ore or iron concentrate in large piles beside docks, awaiting export. The iron ore that is mined from the ground can be refined by crushing, followed by magnetic extraction to produce the iron concentrate. This is then shipped to furnaces that smelt the iron concentrate to produce pig-iron,a crude form of iron that can be processed further to produce materials such as steel. Photographed in Chile | |
