Hailes Abbey, aerial photograph. Hailes Abbey was a late Cistercian abbey built during the 13th century. An elaborate chevet was added to the original building where a shrine held a phial of 'the Holy Blood of Hailes',allegedly Christ's own blood. The authenticity of this relic was later disputed, however throughout the remainder of the 13th century the site was a popular place of pilgrimage. Photographed near Winchcombe,Gloucestershire,UK | |
