London Eye. View of the London Eye,formerly known as the Millennium Wheel,London,England,under construction. The River Thames is in the foreground. At 135 metres,it is the tallest observational or Ferris wheel in the world. Opened in spring 2000,32 continually-rotating observation pods each carry up to 25 people on the 30 minute trip. Here,only two of the pods have been attached to the wheel. The viewing distance from the top is over 25 miles. In all,the 1600 tonne structure utilizes 6 kilometres of cables.
