Britain's first autonomous house. View of a bank of solar panels (photovoltaic cells, blue) outside the first autonomous house in Britain. This house is designed to be completely self-supportive as regards electricity, water, heating and waste management. The solar cells generate the house's electricity, water is collected from precipitation which falls onto the roof, and is stored in tanks in the cellar. Sewage is turned into compost for the garden. Heat is provided by the large conservatory, human body heat, and in extreme cold weather,by a small log stove. The house is located in Southwell,Nottinghamshire,England | |
