Used water softening pellets. Round pellets formed by concentric accretion of calcium carbonate on a nucleus of quartz sand. Water softening is the process of removing dissolved calcium ions and other mineral ions from water. This avoids problems with limescale formation in domestic appliances and pipes, and soap scum in water that is used for washing. The pellet structure is formed of a nucleus of the quartz around which calcium carbonate and other minerals have been deposited. The actual diameter of these pellets is between 3 and 6mm | |
