Steel production. Molten iron being tapped from a blast furnace. The blast furnace is used to produce iron for use in steel making. Iron ore,coke and limestone are added at the top of the furnace,molten iron and the slag of impurities collect in the hearth. The iron and slag need to be removed regularly as the process is continuous. The molten iron is led off and collected in a large vessel for transfer to the steel-making furnace.
