Compressed air car engine. Computer-aided design (CAD) image of the Air Car engine. This car is powered entirely by compressed air. Tanks within the vehicle store up to 90 cubic metres of compressed air. The expansion of this air pushes the pistons in the engine,creating movement. Since no combustion is involved,there are no polluting emissions. A fully charged tank gives a driving range of approximately 150 kilometres (93 miles) and has a top speed of 110 kilometres per hour (68 miles per hour). It can be filled with air from a high pressure air station in 2 minutes,or via a mains connection for 4 hours. The Air Car is due for final production at the end of 2005
