Ice diving. A diver swims beneath a man-made crack in frozen Arctic sea ice using an underwater scooter. Ice diving is a form of diving where divers must endure sub-zero water temperatures. A dive team will search for an area of ice that is thin enough to cut through using a chainsaw. The divers usually wear several layers of protection, including heated neoprene suits,a drysuit and a full face mask. Due to the conditions and small exit hole, divers must use xtra safety precautions, such as the use of a safety rope, and diving only one or two at a time. Arctic waters are abundant in a wide variety of flora and fauna. Photographed in Canada | |
