Divers exploring a shipwreck. This diver is holding a teapot and teacup which he found on an unidentified wreck in Manokwari harbour. During World War Two,this area was the scene of fierce battles after the Japanese forces occupied the area and threatened routes to Australia. There are many wrecks in areas such as Manokwari and Biak that have yet to be accurately identified. Many contain the human remains as well as cargo and artefacts. All have become havens for life particularly for species that need a hard substrate to attach themselves to. Photographed in West Papua in Indonesia,Asia | |
