Saltburn cliff lift. This lift links Saltburn Pier to the town centre, reaching a maximum height of 36.58 metres and a distance of 63.09 metres. The lift is a water-balance lift, having two cars attached to one cable. The cars have water tanks onboard that are either filled or emptied to change their relative weights. The change in weight raises the lighter car to the top of the lift. The lift was opened in 1884 and is the oldest remaining water-balance cliff lift in Britain | |
