Virtual Reality in medicine. A researcher using a headset to view a Virtual Reality (VR) image of a foetus. The image is generated by a computer, and derived from ultrasound scans. The VR system allows the user to 'navigate' around the image,to obtain a variety of viewpoints. Eventually it may be possible to combine a real-time 3D ultrasound image with a direct view of the mother, allowing a doctor to 'see' the foetus in its actual position during an examination. This system is under development at the University of North Carolina,USA | |
