Fibre optics. Several optical fibres (clear) and other wiring. Optical fibres are made from flexible glass that has a high refractive index. Each fibre is coated with an outer protective layer that has a low refractive index. This enables the use of light to transmit data. The light beams which emerge from the end of each fibre have been completely internally reflected. The light travels along the entire cable with little or no absorption and hence little loss of data. Bundles of optical fibres may be used to carry images,or high volumes of data such as telephone conversations or computer files | |
