MODEL RELEASED. Fibre optic volume array. Technician with a prototype volume array fibre optic system. It consists of 16 rectangular optical feeds attached to light-conducting fibres made of flexible highly refractive glass. The system transmits information at near-microwave wavelengths in increments of 0.5 mm,allowing a large volume of data to be sent. Light beams that emerge from optical fibres have been almost completely internally reflected,so the light may be transmitted with little or no absorption. These fibre optics are being developed for use in radar and communications. Photographed at the GEC- Marconi Research Centre in Essex,England | |
