MODEL RELEASED. Robot research. Blurred image of a scientist studying robot movement. The robots can move forwards and backwards, and can turn. They are fitted with an obstacle avoidance device (grey spots on white front section) that uses ultra- sound pulses to locate nearby objects. Movement is controlled by a simple computer program. He is seen examining a robot that is also capable of communicating and learning. The infrared light- emitting diodes (transparent capsules) on its top surface allow it to communicate with other robots, and an additional processor enables it to learn from their shared experiences.
