The blue haze of a hydrogen isotope plasma, produced in the Tandem Mirror Experiment (TMX) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory,U.S. The TMX experiment is designed to test the stability of superhot fusion fuel (a plasma) confined by a magnetic field in a novel geometry. Nuclear fusion reactions are accompanied by a vast release of energy, which may potentially be harnessed for electrical power generation. Here, the ions and electrons that constitute the hot plasma appear to be trapped along the lines of the magnetic field. The bending effect is caused by the plasma approaching a region of increased magnetic field | |
