Radioactive waste disposal. Plastic bag used for disposing of low-level radioactive waste, such as those produced by medical applications. The bag is sealed with tape, and labelled as being radioactive,to prevent any release of radioactivity. The material inside the bag may be compacted, then buried or incinerated. There are strict controls on how this radioactive waste is disposed of. A variety of diagnostic medical techniques use short-lived radioactive isotopes as 'tracers'. Although the radioactive isotopes are used at low concentration, any equipment contaminated with the isotope must be disposed of securely | |
