Nuclear power station construction. Workers with a tubing support plate for a nuclear power plant's steam generator. Thousands of thin tubes will be inserted through holes in support plates like this one, placed across the generator. Steam generators are cylindrical structures (over 20 metres in height) used in pressurized water reactors (PWRs). Pressurized water, heated by the nuclear reactor, passes into the tubing and boils the surrounding water, forming steam to drive turbines to generate electricity. The pressurized (radioactive) water is then reheated in the reactor. Photographed at Framatome ANP's facility in Chalon/Saint Marcel,France | |
