Sizewell B cooling water outlet. View of a cooling water outlet in operation at Sizewell B nuclear power station. The cooling water is pumped back into the North Sea,from which it was taken. Sizewell B is a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design, which was completed in 1995. Once used, the water is returned to the sea approximately 10 degrees Celsius warmer than before. Cooling water is needed to recondense the steam used to turn the electricity generating turbines. Photographed at Sizewell in Suffolk,England | |
