Pylon from the Sizewell power stations. In the foreground is a pylon carrying electricity from Sizewell A and B nuclear power stations (in the background). The grey building on the right is Sizewell A. It is a Magnox power station with twin reactors which produce a combined output of 400 megawatts of electricity (MWe). The blue building with the white dome is Sizewell B,which houses a single Pressurised Water Reactor which produces 1200 MWe. Large, modern turbines generate electricity at approximately 25,000 volts but is stepped up by transformers for efficient transmission by pylons to 400,000 volts.
