Sizewell B nuclear power station. Daytime view of Sizewell B nuclear power station. The reactor is located beneath the white dome, whilst the turbines and other equipment are within the blue building. Sizewell B is Britain's newest (1995) nuclear power station and contains a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR). The design was based on Westinghouse PWRs which have been built in the United States of America. Sizewell B generates electricity by heating water in the reactor to make superheated steam. This passes to a heat exchanger and is used to boil water for a steam turbine which makes electricity. Photographed at Sizewell in Suffolk,England | |
