In a pressurized water reactor (PWR) heat generated in the nuclear core is removed by water which circulates at high pressure through a primary circuit. Heat is transferred from the primary to a secondary circuit via a heat exchanger,thereby generating steam in the secondary circuit which can be used to power turbines.
