| Aerial photograph of the Hanford Engineer Works taken near the end of World War Two. The plant,in the town of Richland Village in Washington,was one of three production centres which supplied components for the atomic bomb (the other two were located at Oak Ridge in Tennessee). The concrete structure,in the foreground at far right,is one of the eight plutonium producing reactor facilites at the Hanford works. The large rectangular building,behind and to the left,is a water treatment facility. The Columbia River,whose waters were employed as reactor coolant,runs across the frame in the background | |
