Hoover Dam. Hydroelectric generators inside the power station at the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River,Nevada,USA. The power station contains seventeen generators,of which eight are seen. The generators convert the energy in falling water into electricity. Water from the reservoir above the power station turns turbines (not seen) in the base of each generating unit. The turbines rotate the rotor,a large electromagnet, inside the stator,a tightly wound coil of wire,in the centre of each generating unit. Electrical current travels up the stator and is conducted to a transformer before transmission. This power station has a capacity of 2000 megawatts | |
